Languages Education

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide foreign language courses that assist in developing communicative skills and awareness of other cultures. We aim to ensure that students are able to express themselves fluently and confidently, in both oral and written language communication. All the while developing a love of language learning.

LANGUAGES OFFERED

We offer courses of study in the following languages: Chinese, Spanish and French
This year the program runs through Prep to 6.
Prep has 12 weeks program for each language (Chinese, French and Spanish)
Years 1 to 6 – Parents select the prefer language at the end of the prior year and students concentrate on one language throughout the year.

Chinese

Language is about everyday life and fun. Our goals are to enable students to attain basic language skills for communication and also increase students’ awareness and interest of Chinese cultures. The contents of Chinese lessons are closely related to daily communication. It encourages the students to use the language in daily life situations. This is applied in many different ways in the classroom through classroom expressions, role plays, dialogues, songs, and stories. Students also learn how to write basic Chinese characters and have been enjoying the complexity of it!

Spanish

The Spanish program is based upon real life language situations where students learn vocabulary which enables them to respond to basic communication needs. Years 1 and 2 have been learning Spanish with the help of Little Pim, a DVD series starring ‘Little Pim’ the Panda, whom all the students love. These short five minute programs help make language learning fun, and contain the vocabulary which is explored throughout the rest of the lesson.Additionally, our students have been learning songs and games typical of the rich and diverse Spanish culture. This has led to the opportunity to share these songs with the greater school community.

French

At CCCB French is taught from Preparatory to Year 6 with an emphasis on meaningful production. The Aim Method which stands for Accelerative Integrated Methodology focuses at first on oral and listening skills through gesture association to enhance learning. It is widely used in Canada and has become quite popular in Australian primary schools. Students learn through a friendly and supportive atmosphere where learning takes place using songs, games and movement based on a story. Prep classes provide a brief introduction to the French language through lots of songs and rhythmic raps and games over 12 weeks. In Years 1-3 the classes will study “Le petit chat cherche une famille” and in Years 4-6 “La Poule Maboule”. As students develop fluency a story writing component will extend their linguistic creativity.
